Obituary

Roberta "Berta" Lee (Ralston) Whited, 73, of Mio, MI passed away peacefully in her sleep at 9:05 P.M. on Friday, January 17, 2025, only a few months after receiving a liver cancer diagnosis.

Berta was born on October 24, 1951 to Robert and Edna (Goodwin) Ralston in Celina, OH. She attended Spencerville Elementary and had fond memories of her time at Jennings. She graduated in 1970 from St. Mary's Memorial High School.

On September 5, 1970, Berta married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Whited at Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in Mendon, OH. They spent thirty-six years together, living most of their days in Kossuth, Ohio. Together they had four children: Lichele, Shondra, Jason, and Ashley.

Berta was a beautiful person. She was reliable, generous, never knew a stranger, and had a habit of taking in stray animals and doctoring them back to health. By nature, she was a caregiver, and she spent all of her adult life caring for others. She was well known for her love of garage sales and thrift stores, a love which she and Ashley shared. Berta also liked crafts of all kinds, and spent her free time making flower arrangements to put on the headstones at the cemetery. She taught her daughter, Lichele, to decorate cakes, won "Employee of the Month" for sorting Lego bricks to help with Jason's business, and sat next to Shondra at many sporting events over the years. Berta was invested in her family – attending her grandkids' births, games, concerts, birthday parties, and graduations. She always made the best meatloaf, ripples, and brownies, which were the family favorites. Roberta was a member of the Spencerville American Legion Auxiliary, Post 191.

Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Chuck; parents, Robert and Edna (Goodwin) Ralston and mother-in-law, Mary Ellen (Schwarck) Whited; siblings, Arliss Herron, Craig "Frog" and Sheldon Ralston; brothers-in-law, Jack Herron and John Whited; and sisters-in-law, Candy Ralston, Linda Ralston, and Velma Ralston.

Roberta is survived by four children: Lichele "Shell" (Rob) Olberding of Celina, OH and their children, Shaun and Rachael (Spencer Kuether); Shondra (Kip) Hoover of Mio, MI and their children, Kaileigh (Austin) Ferris and Emma Hoover; Charles "Jason" (Angela) Whited of Fishers, IN and their children Logan and Nora; and Ashley (Brandon) Boulais of Mayville, ND and their children, Ryerson, Caleb and Lucas. Berta's first great grandchild, Avery Nichol, daughter of Kaileigh and Austin, is due in May. Berta is also survived by three brothers, Wendel (Joanne Shinaberry) of Van Wert, OH, Clem (Deb) Ralston of Mendon, OH, and Bart Ralston of Lima, OH; sisters-in-law, Beth Ralston of Van Wert, OH and Sue Whited of Ohio City, OH; special cousins Kelli (Goodwin) Rader of St. Mary's, OH, and Martha (Deanie) Davis of Hippo, Kentucky, as well as many other loved and important people. She would want all of them listed, because genealogy was her treasured hobby, but the list of loved ones is just too long. What a beautiful testament to who she was. She is and will always be missed by those who knew her.

There will be a visitation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Thomas E.
