June 20, 1953 – January 29, 2022
Spencerville; Roger McMichael, 68, of rural Spencerville, passed away peacefully at 4:26 PM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his residence , surrounded by his loving family. He won the battle with cancer by meeting Jesus. He was born on June 20, 1953 in Lima to the late Max and Vonda Whetstone McMichael. He married his wife, friend and soulmate, Deb Kelly on November 16, 1974, who survives.
Also surviving are his five children, Kelly (Jeremy) Voice, Shaun (Brooke) McMichael and Zachary (Danielle) McMichael, all of Spencerville, Lindsay (Pat) Langhals of Columbus Grove and Tyler McMichael of Charlotte, NC. His loving grandchildren are Kristen and Lauren Voice, Braxton, Maddox and Lenyx McMichael and Addison, Quinn and Jillian McMichael. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and loved to attend their many activities.
Roger is also survived by his best friends; cousin Bob McMichael and brother Wayne (Pat) McMichael, as well as siblings Sue (Billie) Ford, Maxine McMichael, Gary McMichael and Allen (Sally) McMichael, his mother-in-law Frances Kelly and brother-in-law Brad Kelly, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Ben Kelly.
Roger was a 1971 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was known as "The Spencerville Mailman", working for the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years. He was a lifelong farmer and loved working with Wayne and Bob in the fields. He served on the Spencerville School Board for 20+ years. Roger was involved with the FFA and Young Farmers. He was a social member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed bowling and participated in leagues at Lyn Lee Lanes for many years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed spending weekends at Condo Camping at Indian Lake.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Neal Whitney officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 8 PM Wednesday and after 9:30 AM Thursday in the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Spencerville Athletic Boosters, Spencerville Band Boosters or Spencerville Youth Athletic Association.
