Obituary

Ronald H. Gaskill, 93, of St. Marys, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

Ron was born on May 13, 1931 in Allen County to the late Earl O. and Francis W. (Huber) Gaskill Sr. He attended Spencerville High School until entering the United States Air Force. Before he went overseas during the Korean War, Ron was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Betty Lou Daniels on August 3, 1952.  In the Air Force, he was trained as an aircraft mechanic and served for 4 years before being honorably discharged. After the service, he was an aircraft mechanic for 15 years at the Allen County Airport and then spent 19 years at the Ford Motor Company before his retirement in 1990.

Ronald loved bluegrass and country music, traveling, and flea markets, especially when he and Betty would winter in Florida. Ron was well known for being able to fix anything.

Ron is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty; two children, Julie Boehm of Hicksville and Jay (Linda) Gaskill of Van Wert; daughter-in-law Lisa Gaskill of Ruskin, FL; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Amy) Boehm of Bryan, Andrew (Cara) Boehm of Defiance, Casey (Ileana) Gaskill of Riverview, FL, Joshua (Dana) Gaskill of Brandon, FL, Timothy Husted of Ruskin, FL, Kevin (Randi) Husted of Ruskin, FL; eight great grandchildren, Ava Boehm, Griffin Boehm, Shay Soukup, Nick Gaskill, Josh Gaskill, Gabriel Quiles, Ethan Quiles, and Adriana Husted.  He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Johnnie A. Gaskill, Earl O. "Fritz" Gaskill Jr., Homer "Bill" Gaskill, Lewis "Arthur" Gaskill, Tom J. Gaskill, Dee Gaskill, Richard "Rich" Gaskill, and Frank Gaskill; sister Helen "Sis" Kill, and an infant sister; two sons, Ronald Gaskill Jr. and Gary Gaskill; and son-in-law, Robert Boehm.

There will be a graveside service with military honors held at a later date at Kossuth Cemetery. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Ronald and his family. In honor of Ron, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
