Rose Alea Schiffer, 83, of Spencerville, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Lima Memorial Health Systems in Lima.

Rose was born on September 28, 1939, in Toledo, to the late Joseph and Ester Marie (Goliver) Malone. She began her childhood in Cleveland before becoming a Spencerville local and graduated from Spencerville High School in 1957. In 1960, Rose was united in marriage to the late Roger "Doc" Whetstone. Together they had two children. Rose spent the majority of her working years at Pathfinder House in Lima as a program director. She worked there about 20 years before retiring at 72. On December 30, 1981, Rose married Chester "Chet" Schiffer, who had passed away four years later in a tragic accident.

Rose was of the Spencerville VFW Auxiliary #6772 and the Spencerville Invincible Fire Company Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and in her earlier years, loved to travel, visiting friends in other states.

She is survived by her two children, Susan Whetstone of Spencerville and Steve Whetstone of Spencerville; three grandchildren, Samantha "Sammy" (Jonathan) Harrison, Isaiah Duran and Konya Stumbaugh; three great grandchildren, Malaya Johnson, Rowan Harrison and Alexandra Garret. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, siblings, Bernard Malone and JoAnn Jenkins, and daughter-in-law, Frances Whetstone.

There will be a visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Rose and her family.
