Obituary

Spencerville      Roy L. Oakes, 76, passed away at 3:25 AM Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the Roselawn Manor following an extended illness.

He was born February 19, 1945 in Celina, the son of the late Roy Cyrus and Janie Belle Drake Oakes. On July 5, 1969 he married Hazel Huey, who survives, along with their sons; Brad (Conita) Oakes and Brian (Kerry) Oakes; grandchildren, Zach (Lisa) Oakes, Cody (Angela Almashy) Oakes, Audrey (Gage) Austin, Danielle Oakes, Josh Oakes, Kara (Shaun Persinger) Stephens and Karla (Kyle) Fahnestock; 9 great grandchildren and his sister Marilyn (Jim) Clement.

Roy served in the Army in the Vietnam War in 1965 and 66 and later served in the Ohio National Guard. He worked at the former Ohio Decorative Products in Spencerville for over 40 years, retiring in 2003.

He is a life member of the Bowersock Bros. VFW Post 6772 and a member of the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville. He loved to garden and care for his lawn and enjoyed TV  shows,  especially Mash, Western's and wrestling.

Graveside services will be 1 PM Monday in the Spencerville Cemetery with Pastor Jake Boroff officiating.  Military rites will follow the service by the Spencerville Veterans.

The family will receive friends Monday from 11 AM until service time  at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville.
