Lima: Sally Sue Miller Roof, 82, of Lima, formerly of Fort Amanda Road, Spencerville, passed away at 6:30 PM Thursday, January 14, 2021 at her son Randy Roof's home in Spencerville following a short illness.
She was born in Lima, August 21, 1938, a daughter of the late Paul David and Sarah Evelyn Best Miller. On September 5, 1959 she married Richard Vinton "Dick" Roof who died in 1992.
Mrs. Roof was a homemaker and was a past President of the Spencerville PTA and had been a past President of the Lima Insurance Women's Assn. For many years she assisted her husband with the Spencerville Boy Scouts serving as secretary, and later earning her "Wood Badge" training certificate. She was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Spencerville Chapter # 130, Order of Eastern Star and a Life member of the Harry J. Reynolds Post 191 Auxiliary and a Life member of the NRA. A 1957 graduate of Ada High School, she had been the secretary for the former Automotive and Equipment Appraisal Company in Lima.
Survivors include twin sons, Ronald Walter (Mary Ann) Roof of Lima and Randall William (Kimberly) Roof of Spencerville; 9 grandchildren; Jennifer (Tim) Roof of Columbus, Ryan (Chrissy) Roof of Lafayette, Emily Roof of Lima, Sarah (Nathan) Burkholder of Clarksville, TN, Annie (Alex) Smith of Lima, Alison (Michael) Roof of Athens, LeeAnn (Allen) Merricle, Richard (Amanda) Roof and John (Brittany) Roof, all of Spencerville; 6 great grandchildren, Ryan Roof, Jr., Elliott Burkholder, Tegan Smith, Charlotte Merricle, Addison Roof and Delanee Roof, her sister, Catherine Ann (Norman (d)) Case of Lafayette and special friend Sharon Metzger of Lima.
Preceding her death is her son Richard Wayne Roof and her sisters; Florence Marie (Jerry) Crates, Alice Mae (Marshall) Brumett, Gloria Jean (Donald) Shulaw, infant sister Marilyn Sue Miller and special friend Paul Metzger.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday in the Fort Amanda Cemetery, St. Rt. 198, with Pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating.
With Covid – 19 regulations in mind, the family will receive friends from 4 until 8 PM Monday and after 9 AM Tuesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, where Order of Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7:45 PM Monday.
Memorials may be made to the S.O.S. Project, that assists local veterans with special needs.
