SAM BLYTHE
SPENCERVILLE — Sam B. Blythe, 76, of rural Spencerville, died at 7:06 p.m. Aug. 3, 2015, at Van Wert Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 4, 1938, in Spencer Township, Allen County, to Kenny and Junia Harsh Blythe, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 18, 1965, he married Phyllis M. Snavely, who died Jan. 6, 2002. On Dec. 10, 2005, he married Phyllis Collins, who survives in Spencerville.
Mr. Blythe was a 1956 graduate of Spencerville High School and was a life-l0ng farmer in the area. He had also attended The Ohio State University for two years in agriculture and served in the Ohio National Guard. He was very active in the FFA program and earned the Ohio State Farmer Degree and enjoyed working with the Young Farmers Group. He had served several years as a Spencer Township trustee and had attended the Southside Christian Church in Lima.
Survivors also include a son, Brent (Brittney Wienken) Blythe, of Spencerville; three stepchildren, Teresa Lynn Moeller, of Lima, Marcia Leigh (John) Elliott, of Lima, and Penny (Jeff) Kill, of Spencerville; nine grandchildren, Taylor Blythe, of Lima, Christi (Matt) McGuire, of Sarasota, Florida, Corrie Doty, of Lima, Kasey Doty, of Atlanta, Justin Elliott, of Lima, Holly (Jeremy) Portwine, of Westchester, Jordan Elliott, of Cincinnati, Ashley Kill, of Spencerville, and Brittany Kill, of Luddington, Michigan; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ann (Paul) Ewing, of Spencerville, and Betsy (Rob) Youngpeter, of Spencerville.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Thomas William Collins.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Spencerville. The Rev. David W. Howell and the Rev. Justin M. Fuhrmann will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Spencerville Veterans Memorial Park.
