SHARON SIMPKINS
ELIDA — Sharon L. Simpkins, 77, of Elida, died at 9:02 PM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic where she had been a patient since March 11th.
She was born October 14, 1938 in Lima, a daughter of Donald and Desma Butler Verbryke, who are deceased. On February 17, 1957 she married Donald G. "Bud" Simpkins, who survives at the Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
Sharon had attended Elida Schools and graduated from Shawnee High School. She became an Optician and worked several years as the managing Optician at Sears Optical where she retired from after 25 years service. She had also worked at several other cities as an Optician and had also been an Amway dealer. She had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elida and is a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church near Cridersville.
She was involved in the Jaycees when she was younger and when she lived in Tempe, Arizona she was involved with the Tempe Welcome Wagon. The group out there became one big family playing cards, made a cook book and many other activities.. They are still very close today. She loved getting together with friends and family to play cards and just spend time talking. She was loved wherever she was , but especially by her family.
Other survivors are four children; Mark Allen (Denise) Simpkins of Spencerville; Richard Keith (Sindy) Simpkins of Elida; Steven Dwayne Simpkins of Elida and Barbara Ann Simpkins also of Elida, whom had cared for her parents at her home. 5 grandchildren; Kevin Giese of Phoenix, AZ.; Jon Simpkins of Spencerville; Matthew (Kari) Rodriguez , Tori Simpkins and Trisha Baldauf, all of Elida; 4 great grandchildren; Alexis, Zach, Austin and Gabby Rodriguez all of Elida and 3 siblings; Betty (Tom) Hirn of Lima, Donna Decker of Elida and Gloria (Richard) Schwartz of Spencerville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday in the St. Matthew's Church with Rev. Sharon Stonerock officiating. Burial will follow in the St.Matthew Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM Friday until service time at the St. Matthew's Church.
