SHIRLEY MAYS
SPENCERVILLE — Shirley B. Mays, 81, of Spencerville, died at 7:55 AM Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville following a short illness, with her family at her side.
She was born February 25, 1935 in Morgan County, TN., a daughter of Rev. Walter and Meeda Stringfield, who are deceased. On September 26, 1953 she married James A. Mays, who died August 13, 1997.
Surviving are three children; Lynn (Jeff) Mull and Dennis (Julie Manning) Mays, both of Spencerville and Jeff (Dixie) Mays of St. Marys; 3 grandchildren; Jennifer (Dustin) Shonk of Wapakoneta. Ashley (Dave) Edwards of Lima and Andrea Mays of Spencerille; 3 step-grandchildren; Craig Store of Greenville; Tonya Store of Rockford and Lisa ( Brent) Beebe of Spencerville; several great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; a sister; Marolene Davis of Camillo, GA; a brother; J. C. Stringfield of Morgan County, TN; sister-in-law; JoAnn Stringfield of N.M.; very close sister-in-law; Barb (Rick) Arthur of Elida and special cousin Peggy Henson of Elida.
Shirley was preceded in death by 2 sons; infant James A. Mays, Jr. and Jimmy L. Mays; 2 sisters; Hazel (R.C.) May and Helen (Paul) Hicks; and 2 brothers; Herschel Stringfield and Leslie ( Allie) Underwood and brother-in-law; Talmage Davis.
A homemaker, she had formerly worked at Roselawn Manor. She loved to watch NASCAR and was a Jeff Gordon fan and watched the soaps on TV.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Jim Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2/4 and 6/8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the St. Rita's Hospice program.
