Strayer
August 22, 1933 – December 25, 2020
Spencerville; Sondra Ann Strayer, 87, of rural Spencerville, passed away peacefully Christmas morning, December 25, 2020 at her residence, with her brother nearby.
She was born August 22, 1933 in Logansport, IN. to the late George J. and Hazel V. Hooven McDaniel. On September 29, 1951 she married Paul G. W. Strayer, who died New Years eve December 31, 2019.
Mrs. Strayer worked for her father at Mac's Supermarket and the Central Drug Store in Spencerville in her teenage years. Later she retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 25 years service.
Sondra joined the Hartford Christian Church in rural Spencerville in 1961, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for several years. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Friendly Circle of Hartford and was their President several times. She was Sunday School Treasurer for 40 plus years and had served as President of the Spencerville PTA and had been Treasurer of the Allen County PTA. She was a Charter Member of the Modern Mothers CCL, where she had held all offices. She enjoyed working in her many lovely flower gardens over the years.
Surviving are her two sons; Randy (LuAnn) Strayer and Toby (Mary) Strayer, both of Spencerville and her daughter Paula (Mick) Martz of Lima; eight grandchildren, Rodney (Juli) Strayer of Loveland, Ohio, Ryan Strayer, Renee Shartzer, Stephanie (Jim) Henschen, Ashley (Ben) Fledderjohann, and Zach (Morgan) Strayer, all of Spencerville, Brittany (Brad) Brenneman of Delphos and Kip (Jaclyn) Martz of Findlay; 21 great grandchildren, her brother, Gary "G.P." (Martha(d)) McDaniel of Miamisburg and in-laws; twins Jane (Eugene (d)) Youngpeter of Spencerville and Jean (David (d)) Miller of Ada, Shirley Strayer of Lima and Joyce (Ronald) Brenneman of Delphos. She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Mary and Bill Baxter.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday in the Hartford Christian Church with Pastors Daniel Hub, Gary Hohman and Robert King officiating. Burial will be at 4 PM Monday in the Hartford Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 until 11 AM Monday at the church, Northeast of Spencerville on State Route 81.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens Ministries at the Hartford Youth Building.
