Sylvia J. Harter, 85, of Lima, formerly of Spencerville, passed away February 4, 2022, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Sylvia was born May 8, 1936 to Raleigh and Hazel (Prine) Point who preceded her death.
Sylvia was preceded in death by four siblings, Marilyn Armstrong, Norman Point, Wanda Bowman and Dale Point.
She was previously married to Gary L. Bowersock, with whom she had five children, Ned and Robert Bowersock (deceased), Regina (Dennis) Staples, Darrin Bowersock and Sheila Roth.
On August 6, 1968, she married Charles Ray Harter who passed away in January of 1993. Charlie and Sylvia had 3 children: Rebecca Steineman, James and John Harter.
Sylvia was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Melissa Kinney, Michele Brown, Michael Staples, Tara Lafferty, Christopher and Danielle Bowersock, Jessica Markham, Jonathan Owens, Emily and Alison Steineman, Samantha Durst, Brooke and Kameron Harter.
She had fifteen great-grandchildren: Jenifer Mejia, Jaden Christman, Lucas Markham, Peyton, Makenzie, Parker, and Karliegh Brown, Gabrielle, Paige, and Skylar Kinney, Ella, Harper, and Leo Lafferty, Orlaigh and Ivy Bowersock.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her father and mother in-law Theodore and Evelyn Harter.
Sylvia loved socializing and meeting new people. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family and friends. Bowling in a league was enjoyable to her as well. Sylvia loved flowers as she always had a fresh vase of them. In her younger years, she volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader and also enjoyed teaching V.B.S.
A private Family Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 11, at 2pm at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Daniel Hub officiating. Extended Family viewing from 1 to 2pm. Graveside service will follow at Spencerville Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to donors' choice.
