Thomas W. Townsend, 83, of Spencerville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at his home south of Spencerville.

Tom was born on March 21, 1942, in Van Wert, to the late Ellard B. and Wilma A. (Armstrong) Townsend. He graduated from Spencerville High School in 1960. During his time in school, he was a member of the 1958 Acme State Runner Up baseball team and a member of the 1959 State Runner Up Class A baseball team. He served in the United States Army for three years until his honorable discharge in 1964. On April 18, 1964, Tom married Pamela J. Holliday who survives him. Also surviving are their three children, Tina Rene, Terri Michelle, and Christopher Bryce (Jennifer); nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James David Townsend; great grandchild, Greyson Lee Schleeter.

Tom worked in construction for 12 years and as a plumber-pipe fitter for 30 years for Ford Motor Co. He attended Open Door Baptist Church in Lima.

There will be a visitation from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Visitation will continue from 1:30-2:30 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the funeral home with pastor William Turner officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Spencerville area veterans. Burial will take place following the service at New Salem cemetery South of Monticello. Thomas E.
