Vera D. Elshoff, 91, of Spencerville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
Vera Dale Elshoff was born on September 17, 1931 near Buckland, in Auglaize County to the late Martin J. and Minnie (Brown) Sunderland. She grew up in the Buckland area and graduated from Buckland High School in 1950. In 1954, she was united in marriage to Roger Reed who later passed away in 1959. She later married Leonard William "Len" Elshoff on April 10, 1964 at the United Church of Christ in Spencerville. Shortly after her marriage to Len, she began working for the Spencerville Schools as a cook for 23 years retiring in 1997.
Vera was a member of the United Church of Christ in Buckland and an active member of the church choir. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening and needle point.
Vera is survived by her husband, Leonard; two children, Susan (Andy) Jacobs of Spencerville and Mark (Karen) Elshoff of Celina; four grandchildren, Pam (Elliott) Schoonover of Spencerville, Scott (Elisha) McDonough of Wauseon, Rachel (Dan) Guggenbiller of Fort Recovery, and Megan (Alex) Macur of Columbus; nine great grandchildren, Lauren Vanschoyck, Olivia Vanschoyck, Ethan Gomez, Marlie Gomez, Riley Guggenbiller, Olive Gomez, Ryker McDonough, William McDonough, Maverick McDonough; two sisters, Wanita Meier of Lima and Carol (Lee) Klima of Wapakoneta; 3 sisters-in-law, Frankie Sunderland of Spencerville, Delores Sunderland of Wapakoneta, and Marsha Sunderland of Spencerville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Roger Reed, and seven siblings, Harold "Dutch" Sunderland, twin brother Vernon Sunderland, Roger Sunderland, Charles "Chuck" Sunderland, Carl Sunderland, Ruth Meeker, and Mildred Tangeman.
There will be a visitation from 1-4 and again from 5-7 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Jeanette Tangeman and Associate Pastor Adam Shanaman officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Spencerville Cemetery.
