Vernon "Vernie"
Gail Richardson
February 28, 1938 – October 28, 2023
Spencerville; Vernon G. "Vernie" Richardson, 85, of Spencerville passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
Vernon was born on February 28, 1938 in Buckland, OH to the late Jule Earl and Dorothy Esther (Coil) Richardson. He graduated in 1956 from Spencerville High School. Growing up in Buckland in a large family Vernon Richardson enjoyed being around his brothers and sisters. Later on, he moved to Spencerville where he met and married the love of his life Carolyn Louise Adams on May 31, 1958 and started a family. After graduating, he began working for Superior Coach, formerly known as Sheller Globe as a press operator. He was with Superior Coach for 20 years before going to JJL Automotive in Wapak from 1981-1986.
Vernon loved his sons and supported them by becoming involved in their sports. He coached Little League baseball for many years and followed his sons and grandkids as they grew by being an avid spectator at all of their sporting events. Every weekend in the fall and winter Vernon could be found in the bleachers cheering on his beloved Bearcats. To say Vernon also was an avid golfer is an understatement. He could be found on the links with his friends almost anytime the weather allowed. One of his proudest moments on the course was his hole in one while golfing in Florida. As his health began to fail, he could be found enjoying golf and sports on tv while drinking Dr Pepper and eating Nutty Bars. Vernon was a good friend to many people in Spencerville and enjoyed spending time with them.
Vernie was survived by his two children, James K. "Jim" Richardson of Sidney, OH , and Dee A. (Teresa) Richardson of Muskegon, MI; daughter-in-law, Paula Richardson of Spencerville; six grandchildren, Sarah E. (Tyler) Cole of Northville, MI, Andrew (Kari) Richardson of Columbus,Orion Richardson of Columbus, Shane (Hannah) Richardson of Troy, McKenzie (Garett) Smith of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Lindsay (Bladen) Harnly of Morehead City, NC; three great grandchildren, Shepard Cole, Asher Cole, and Kennedy Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn, son, Robin G. "Rob" Richardson and siblings, Opal (Vaughn) Snyder, infant Faye Richardson, Ruth (Ralph) Nolan, Julia (Virgil) Grubmeyer, Richard (Helen) Richardson, Virginia (Wick) Place, and Ronald (Wilma) Richardson.
