WILLIAM BARNETT
SPENCERVILLE — William L. "Bill" Barnett, 68, of Spencerville, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at his residence with his family at his side following an extended illness.
He was born July 11, 1946 in Spencerville, the son of William L. "Bill" and Mary Rosella Heil Barnett, who are deceased.
Surviving are his special friend and companion Vickie Howell of Spencerville; a daugher; Kerry (Mary Pinzone) Barnett of Macedona, Ohio and a son; Ed (Sarah) Barnett of Spencerville and two grandchildren; Emilee Wood of Bowling Green and Evan Barnett of Spencerville and four sisters; Ruth Kurtz of Spencerville; Lila (Dave) Place of Celina; Donna Grant of Spencerville and Linda (Sam) Lambert of Port Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by a sister; Ireta (Lowell) Short and a brother-in-law; Larry Kurtz.
Bill was a 1964 graduate of Spencerville High School and then served in the Vietnam War in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic. Later he graduated from ITT Tech in Fort Wayne as an electrical technician. He worked for the Honeywell Corp. and Pyromation, Inc. of Ft. Wayne. Then in 1983 he formed his own company, B.B. Control of Spencerville making heat treat electrical control systems. From 1988 to 2007 he owned The Villager restaurant in Spencerville, the home of "The Village Burger."
He was a life member of Bowersock Bros. VFW Post 6772 and was a member of the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville. He was a member of the 1963 Spencerville High undefeated football season. He enjoyed firewood cutting and fishing.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the VFW Post 6772 in Spencerville. Burial of cremains will be earlier in the Spencerville Cemetery.
